Flower Friday: Crocus

“Known as the ambassador of spring, Crocus are often the first blooms of the spring. According to Greek mythology, crocuses sprung from the land where Greek gods Zeus and Hura lived as symbol of their love. Originating in Crete, Crocuses were brought to Holland in the 16th century. The name means yellow saffron, as certain varieties of crocus are used to produce the spice saffron. Today, Dutch Crocuses are larger and more vibrantly colored than their saffron producing relatives.” [Source]
