Sunday Thoughts: The Simple Life

“To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.” –John Burroughs

  1. People don’t look around and see the amazing things around them. I’m glad to got to see that and weren’t somewhere else when it was happening. Nature is what we should all be looking at and so many people just don’t care.

  2. Thank you! It reminds me of the time many, many years ago while on a cruise through Alaska. One of the glaciers started to cab an amazing amount. So the captain stopped the ship for awhile so we could watch. He went on the loudspeaker, which broadcast throughout the ship, and explained a little bit about what was happening and then told us that it was rare for the cruise ship to be in the right place at the right time to see this event. I was completely awestruck by the powerful beauty. Giant pieces were falling into the water and rocking the boat!!!! Wow!! I looked to my side for a minute wondering if anyone else was as awestruck, sadly, only two other people were standing on the deck with me. The rest of the people on the ship was elsewhere eating, gambling, anything but watch what unfolding before us. To this day I’m mystified by the behavior.

  3. That’s lovely. Ah yes, the simple life…………. picking up seashells on the beach while your fellow travelers sit in casinos putting their money in there and pushing buttons, with no expressions on their faces……..
